- This week, Katarina is beginning her 2003 season at the 24th Argentina Bowl - a Grade 2 ITF Juniors tournament in Argentina, South America. YEA!
- Kat is seeded #7 in the Main Draw Singles, which is very nice for a Grade 2, and drew a "bye" in 1st Round.
- In 2nd Round, it is Kat vs. Virginia Galvarini of Uruguay, a Qualifier. VG, besides qualifying, had a fairly easy time of it in 1st Round.
- So Kat faces someone who has probably won some tough matches very recently. But Kat is almost certainly the better player.
- (It is unknown to me, at this time, if Kat is playing Doubles in Argentina.)
- Win, Kat, WIN!!
- And HAVE FUN!!

- Katarina is playing some GREAT tennis in Argentina this week - both Singles and Doubles!
- Kat is beginning her 2003 season at the 24th Argentina Bowl - a Grade 2 ITF Juniors tournament in Mar del Plata, Argentina, South America. YEA!
- In Singles, Kat is seeded #7, with appropriate respect, and drew a "bye" in the 1st Round. In the 2nd Round, Kat very impressively defeated Virginia Galvarini of Uruguay: 6-2, 6-1. Galvarini was a Qualifier who had (obviously) won through Qualifying, as well as a 1st Round Main Draw match. Well done, Kat! YEA!
- In 3rd Round, Kat faced another Qualifier (who was, obviously, "on a roll"), and this time an Argentinian: Mary Juliana Cordero. Again Kat triumphed impressively: 6-1, 6-1. YEA!
- In 4th Round, the Quarterfinals, Kat faced Brazillian Teliana Periera (unseeded) - and grabbed another victory: 6-1, 6-4. YEA!
- In the Semi's, probably tomorrow, it will be Kat (seeded #7) vs. Vojislava Lukic (seeded #8) of Yugoslavia. Lukic seems to be quite a good player, and "hot" lately - a nice test for Katarina!
- Win, Kat, WIN!!
- And HAVE FUN!!
- Meanwhile, in Doubles, Kat is teaming with Megan Moulton-Levy of the US, and they drew a "bye" in 1st Round (they are seeded #6). YEA!
- In 2nd Round Doubles, it was Kat/Megan vs. Barbara Pinterova (SVK)/Maria Spenceley (GBR) (unseeded). Kat/Megan got the victory: 7-5, 6-3. YEA! (And probably very exciting for the crowd!)
- In the 3rd Round (Quarterfinals), Kat/Megan faced the "home town" Argentinian team of Betina Jozami/Flavia Mignola (unseeded) - and Kat/Megan grabbed another victory: 6-3, 6-1. YEA!
- In the Doubles Semi's, Kat/Megan faced Mareike Bigimaier (GER)/Pascale Schnitzer (CHI) (unseeded) - and won again, this time 6-2, 6-2. YEA!
- WELL DONE Kat/Megan!
- In the Doubles Final, it will be Kat/Megan vs. Agnes Szatmari (ROM)/Agnes Szavay (HUN) (unseeded).
- WIN AGAIN, Kat/Megan! And HAVE FUN!
- Go, Kat, GO!

- Tuesday 3/4/03
- Katarina had an EXCELLENT run in Argentina last week! This was a Grade 2 tournament, a somewhat unfamiliar and challenging venue for Kat, yet there were appropriate (and challenging?) seedings in both Singles and Doubles. And Kat clearly showed the correctness of those seedings.
- In the Doubles Final, Kat/Megan (seeded #6) defeated Agnes Szatmari (ROM)/Agnes Szavay (HUN) (unseeded) - 7-6(7-5), 6-3 - in an obviously very exciting match, for the Title. YEA!
- VERY WELL DONE, Kat/Megan! YEA!
- In the Singles Semi's, Kat (seeded #7) faced Vojislava Lukic (seeded #8). Well, this was a loss, although an obviously exciting and close match - Lukic d. Zoricic: 6-3, 7-6(7-3). Oh well...
- (By the way: Lukic then went on to win her 3rd Title in a row with a defeat of the #4 seed, Marine Giraud of France: 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.)
- While it is true that Kat/Megan (seeded #6) took the Doubles Title via a "bye", then by defeating 4 unseeded teams, it is also true that all 4 of those unseeded teams fully earned their right to challenge Kat/Megan. That Kat/Megan didn't defeat any seeded team is meaningless: they defeated every team that defeated every other seeded team, directly or indirectly, obviously.
- In Argentina, Katarina began 2003 in very, VERY, impressive form - with EXCELLENT results.
- This week, Katarina is in Sao Paulo, Brazil, South America, at the 33rd Banana Bowl, a Grade A tournament. Kat is seeded #16 in Singles - it is very much appropriate that Kat is seeded, even though Grade A is a big jump up from last week's Grade 2. In Doubles, Kat is again teaming with Megan Moulton-Levy (USA), and they are unseeded (this is Grade A).
- In 1st Round Singles, Kat faced Qualifier Maria Spencely (GBR) - and won: 6-3, 6-3. YEA!
- In 2nd Round Singles, probably tomorrow, it will be Katarina Zoricic (seeded #16) vs. Stefania Pesce (Qualifier - Italy).
- Win, Kat, WIN! And HAVE FUN!
- In 1st Round Doubles, today, it was Kat/Megan vs. Agnes Szatmari (ROM)/Agnes Szavay (HUN), in a re-match of last week's Final - Kat/Megan re-won, this time 6-3, 6-4. YEA!
- 2nd Round Doubles will be Kat/Megan (unseeded) vs. Thalia Diaz Barriga (MEX)/Gabriella Duch (MEX) (seeded #7). This looks like a nice challenge for Kat/Megan - and a good show for the crowd!
- WIN AGAIN, Kat/Megan! And HAVE FUN!
- Go, Kat, GO!
-
- Friday 3/7/03
- Katarina has been playing some FANTASTIC tennis this week at the Banana Bowl in Sao Paulo, Brazil - a Grade A!
- In Singles, Kat was seeded #16 (flattering, and appropriate!), and defeated Qualifier Maria Spencely (GBR) 6-3, 6-3 in 1st Round, then defeated Qualifier Stefania Pesce (ITA) 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 in 2nd Round. (Slow start, then great finish!) YEA!
- In 3rd Round Singles it was Katarina Zoricic d. Laura Thorpe (unseeded): 6-2, 6-2. YEA!
- In the Singles Quarters, it was KZ (seeded #16) vs. Krysty Marcio (USA)(seeded #5 - the highest remaining seed). Well, Marcio d. Zoricic: 6-1, 6-3. Oh well... (Not an upset, though, technically.)
- Then there's Doubles!
- Kat/Megan took first Round in an impressive re-match of last weeks Final vs. Szatmari/Svavay: 6-3, 6-4. YEA!
- Then KM (unseeded) faced #7 seeds Thalia Diaz Barriga (MEX)/Gabriella Duch (MEX) - and KM won: 6-7(5-7), 6-1, 6-4. YEA! Another clearly exciting match....
- In the Quarterfinals Doubles, it was then Kat/Megan vs. the #1 seeds Maryori Franco (COL)/Alyona Tsutskova (UKR) - and KM won! And very impressively: 6-3, 6-1. YEA!
- In the Semifinals Doubles, it was another re-match from last week - this time vs. unseeded Betina Jozami (ARG)/Flavia Mignola (ARG). Last week, it was a 6-3, 6-1 victory for KM in 1st Round - this week it was another victory, but far more exciting: 7-6(7-0), 5-7, 6-4. YEA!
- The Doubles Final, maybe tomorrow, will be KM (unseeded) vs. Larissa Carvalho (BRA)/Soledad Esperon (ARG) (seeded #2) - a nice challenge for Kat/Megan!
- Win, Kat/Megan, WIN!
- And HAVE FUN!
-
- Tuesday 3/11/03
- Katarina has continued to play GREAT tennis, last week and this week!
- Last week, in Singles at the Grade A 33rd Banana Bowl, Kat (seeded #16) made it to the Quarters, where she lost to the #5 seed, Krysty Marcio (the highest remaining seed at that point): 6-1, 6-3. No big deal that!
- WELL DONE, Kat!
- In Doubles, Kat teamed (again) with Megan Moulton-Levy (unseeded), and they made it all the way to the Final, where they faced the #2-seeded team of Larissa Carvalho (BRA)/Soledad Esperon (ARG). Well, this was a loss for Kat/Megan: 1-6, 7-6(7-3), 6-2. Obviously very close, though, and very exciting for the crowd! That's good, eh?!
- WELL DONE, Kat/Megan!
- This week, Katarina is in Porto Alegre, Brazil, South America, at the 25th Gerdau Tennis Cup, a Grade 2 Tournament. Kat is seeded #13 in Singles, and apparently not playing Doubles (that's ok).
- In 1st Round it was Kat vs. unseeded Amanda Avedissian (USA) - Kat won: 6-3, 6-4. YEA!
- The scheduled 2nd Round is Kat vs. Qualifier Joyce Ardies (BRA).
- Win, Kat, WIN!
- And HAVE FUN!
-
- Sunday 3/16/03
- Katarina had a very good and impressive run in Brazil this past week.
- At the Gerdau Grade 2, after a great victory in Main Draw Round 1 (mentioned below), it was Kat d. Joyce Ardies (a local, Brazil, Qualifier): 6-2, 6-0. YEA!
- In 3rd Round, it was Kat (seeded #13) vs. Kateryna Bondarenko (UKR - seeded #2). Well, this was a loss, with KB taking the 1st set 6-1, then KB going up 2-0 in the 2nd set, then Kat retiring. Oh well....
- Fortunately, the "retired" is probably not indicative of some serious injury, due to an observer on-scene having been very impressed with Kat's practicing the next day. (And it may be worth noting that KB went on to take the Singles title with victories beyond Kat of 6-0, 6-0, and 6-1, 7-6(7-1), and 6-7(1-7), 6-1, 6-2.)
- ANYWAY: a very good run, for 3 weeks, in South America there, Kat!
- VERY WELL DONE!
-
- Friday 5/16/03
- This week, Katarina has been at the 25th International "Torneo Citta Di Santa Croce", a Grade 1 Juniors meet near Pisa, Italy, Europe.
- And Kat has been doing very well!!
- Kat was seeded #11 in the Main Draw - a flattering, yet totally appropriate placement - and drew a "bye" in 1st Round. YEA!
- In the 2nd Round, Kat got the victory over "lucky loser" Alexandra Karavaeva of Russia: 7-6(7-1), 6-2. YEA! (and a good show for the crowd - much YEA! for that!).
- The 3rd Round was a very great show for the crowd, with KZ (seeded #11) vs. Eden Marama of New Zealand (seeded #6). Kat dropped the 1st set, 4-6, then took the 2nd through a tie-break, 7-6(7-5). The deciding set went to Kat: 6-3. YEA!
- (I hope this was a very much "fun" match for Kat - for the crowd it was no doubt very, very special!)
- The 4th Round was the Quarters, and Kat vs. the #13 seed: Alla Kudryatseva of Russia.
- Katarina took the 1st set, 7-6(7-3), but then the next two sets went to the Russian: 6-4, 6-3. Oh well...
- (Kat didn't play doubles this week.)
- This was a very good week for Katarina, with 2 excellent victories, and a tough and close loss, in a Grade 1 event.
- VERY WELL DONE KAT!
- Next for Kat may be the 44th Italian Junior Open in (or near) Milan, then maybe the 39th Astrid in Belgium, then maybe Roland Garros.
- Mostly I hope every day for Katarina is this: FUN!
-
- Wednesday 5/21/03
- This week, Katarina has been at the Italian Open (actually the "44th Italian Junior Open Trofeo Bonfiglio Campionati" - a Grade-A ITF Juniors event) in (or near) Milan, Italy, Europe.
- And Kat has done quite nicely!
- Placed in the Main Draw (unseeded), in 1st Round Kat faced Italian Wild-Card Natasha Brescia - and Kat got a good win: 6-4, 6-3. YEA!
- In the 2nd Round, Kat got a victory over Qualifier Tatjana Priachina of Germany: 6-4, 7-5. YEA! (and probably a good show for the crowd - much YEA! for that!).
- The 3rd Round was vs. also unseeded Kirsten Flippens of Belgium - this one went to Flippens: 6-4, 6-3. Oh well...
- SO: two very nice victories in a G-A setting, and three crowds who will no-doubt be forever Kat-fans - that's much more than OK!
- (Kat didn't play doubles this week.)
- This was another very good week for Katarina, with 2 excellent victories, in a Grade A event.
- VERY WELL DONE KAT!
- Next for Kat may be the 39th Astrid Bowl in Belgium, then maybe Roland Garros, which would be nice. (Then there's the Kaelin-Diadora USTA 10K starting here in about a week - that would be nice too!)
- Mostly I hope every day for Katarina is this: FUN!
